Clive Davis Party

So we pretty much had the craziest week of our lives. I am going to do a post for each event we attended, starting with the Clive Davis Party , the biggest pre-grammy bash out there.

I drove up to West Hollywood to meet Wing before the event even though I didn't have a ticket to the night's festivities. We hadn't seen each other for a few days so I was just excited to see him, if only for a couple hours. He arranged a massage for me in the room for after he left because he's sweet like that.

Last minute we were informed that Aja (Dan's wife) and myself would be able to attend the party if we sat at a different table in the back of the room. I was happy just to go and people/fashion watch. However, since I didn't know I was going to the event, I didn't bring anything suitable to wear. As in, I could have worn my Grammys dress or jeans and a kimono. That wouldn't have flown with this crowd. Thankfully, Aja had some extra dresses and leant me one. Oh yeah and I still got that massage. Spoiled brat, I know. I only had 25 minutes to get ready but totally worth it.

The boys were already at the party, sound checking and red carpeting so us girls slid in and did a scan of all the fancy people in the ballroom before dinner. After a yummy meal, Imagine Dragons opened the show/gala portion of the evening, with acoustic versions of "It's Time" and "Radioactive." It was amazing to watch them perform for a room of such established artists and producers. The night continued with an icon award, several speeches and performances by Lionel Richie, Foo Fighters, Macklemore, Miley Cyrus, R. Kelly, Robin Thicke, Jennifer Hudson, Pharrell and more. Here is a true play by play because I don't trust my memory. I think my favorite performance (besides the Dragons) was John Fogerty because I can get down to some CCR.

After Imagine Dragons performed, our men came back to rescue us from the nose bleeds. They brought us down to sit with them at their table just off of stage left that they shared with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. I didn't have a chair but I got a lap:) I'm not sure how much Macklemore liked the over-crowed table but that's rock n' roll baby.

Throughout the night, Clive Davis introduced different icons out in the audience. The only person I felt completely starstruck by was Joni Mitchell. She has always sung straight to my soul. She was so far away from us, I could barely see her but it still made me giddy. Oh man, is she wonderful.

My favorite moments of the night:

1. As we were walking out of the room to leave, I felt a tug from the back of my dress, as if a little kid was trying to follow me out. I turn around and it is Joan Rivers looking up at me with her signature face. "Please tell me you know you're way out of here," she said. I answered back that I would get her out of there in on piece (it was very crowded, with lots of pushing and shoving). She held onto my dress all the way until we walked out the doors.

2. Right after I said goodbye to my dear new friend Joan, I hear a woman's cuban accent shouting, "Stevie! It's me! Gloria, Gloria Estefan!" I look to my left and two feet away are Miss Estefan and the Stevie Wonder.

3. Kris Kristofferson snuck backstage to tell Imagine Dragons that they are the best band since The Beatles. A high praise (to say the least) from a talented man. Full disclosure: I wasn't there for that part but it's so unbelievable that I had to share.
